The wheels of the bus go round and round . . . until they fall off. And, fall off they did as the Chicago Cubs lost to the Kansas City Royals by a 12-4 count Monday.
The Royals finished with 14 hits that included four home runs.
The Cubs had opening pitcher Ryan Brasier who went one inning with one strikeout. Then it was Ben Brown who went four innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. He allowed two home runs. Chris Flexen came in to toss three innings giving up five runs on seven hits and one walk.
Home runs for the Royals came off the bats of Salvador Perez with two home runs and four RBI, John Rave with a single, home run and two RBI and Jac Caglianone with a solo shot. Jonathan India finished with a double and an RBI while Bobby Witt had a single and two RBI. Kyle Isbel added three singles and Nick Loftin finished with two singles.
Matt Shaw and Carson Kelly were the bright spots for the Cubs. Kelly hit two singles, and a solo home run while Matt Shaw had a single and a three-shot homer. Justin Turner added a single and double.
