NEW YORK — The Chicago Cubs moved into a 1-0 lead in the opening inning but the New York Yankees came right back in the second to tie the score. It stood that way until the sixth then the Cubs tallied two more and finished with a 4-1 victory Sunday behind a 10-hit attack.

Meanwhile, Shota Imanaga went seven powerful innings, keeping the Yankees off the bases including putting Aaron Judge on the bench twice on strikeouts.

Of the 10 hits, four were of the extra base variety as Dansby Swanson and Michael Busch homered. Busch, in his first career plate appearance in the leadoff spot, knocked one out in the first inning. Swanson then hit a two-run shot in the sixth to break the 1-1 tie and push the Cubs into the lead. Carson Kelly had reached base with a double when Swanson then came to the plate to hit the homer.

Imanaga allowed only one run on two hits, one walk while striking out six.

The Cubs go into the All-Star break with a total of 57 victories and stand in first place in the Central Division with a 57-39 record.

At St. Louis

The Cardinals had a two-run sixth and held off the Atlanta Braves for a 5-4 victory Sunday.

St. Louis moved into a 1-0 lead in the second inning but Atlanta tied in the third.

The Cardinals’ Scott drew a walk in the fifth. With two outs, Burleson singled and Scott went to third. Contreras doubled bringing home Burleson and Scott.

The Cardinals then came through in the sixth as Jose Fermin hit a two-run shot that gave the Cardinals the win. Winn singled and Fermin then homered to left field.
