MINNEAPOLIS — Chicago Cubs’ starting pitcher Cade Horton went 4 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and the Minnesota Twins scored four runs and finished with a 4-2 victory Wednesday.

Horton dropped to 3-3 on the season.

The big news for the Twins was the loss of Bryon Buxton, their centerfielder, to a hand injury when he was hit in the first inning.

Losing Buxton would be tough on the Twins, as he finished with his 17th steal in 17 attempts this season. It will now be up in the air whether Buxton can take part in the All-Star Home run Derby at the All-Star contest.

The Cubs and Twins are back in action today. Colin Rea will go to the mound for the Cubs. Chris Paddack will take the hill for the Twins.

At St. Louis

Home runs again were the demise for the St. Louis Cardinals as the Washington Nationals claimed an 8-2 victory Wednesday.

Nathaniel Lowe hit a three-run homer while James Wood knocked out his 24th home run in the seventh inning. Wood will be competing in the All-Star Game and will be taking part in the Home Run Derby.

Lowe got his 14th homer in the first inning and Amed Rosario hit a solo shot in the fifth. The Nationals tallied three more in the sixth.

The two teams will return to action today against each other. St. Louis will send Miles Mikolas to the mound.
