ST. LOUIS — It was a lead-off home run by Chicago’s Ian Happ as the Cubs came back to pick up an 8-0 victory over St. Louis Wednesday.
Happ hit the opening pitch that sailed out over the right field fence. Happ now has 12 home runs this season.
Also hitting the long ball were Reese McGuire and Kyle Tucker.
McGuire hit a home run to right/centerfield and Michael Busch also scored to give the Cubs a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Tucker then hit a solo shot and the Cubs held a 5-0 lead.
Matthew Boyd kept the Cardinals off the bases. He did not allow a walk and struck out three. He only allowed one baserunner to advance into scoring position. And, he finished giving up only three hits.
Ryan Brasier, Michael Fulmer and Porter Hodge combined in relief, not giving up a run.
The Cubs ended a three-game losing streak.
In other Chicago news, the Cubs activated left-handed pitcher Shota Imanaga who will start against the Cardinals today. The Cardinals will have right-handed pitcher Andre Pallatane toss the final game of the four-game series.
