Brennyn Cutts
OMAHA, Neb. — Louisville edged Oregon State, 7-6 in the Men’s College World Baseball Series Tuesday.
Eddie King Jr. hit a sacrifice fly that drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
The Cardinals’ top of the order was up in the bottom of the ninth. Alex Alicea drew a walk. Lucas Moore took first base on a catcher’s interference. The bases were loaded when Matt Klein bunted and the Beavers picked up their third error of the game.
With the bases loaded, the next batter struck out, but King hit a fly ball to center and Alicea tagged at third and made it home for the winning run.
A member of the team is Cumberland High School’s Brennyn Cutts. Cutts started the game on the mound for the Cardinals. He tossed three innings, giving up three hits, two earned runs, walked four but struck out seven in just his second start of the season.
Cutts came over to join the Cardinals from Indiana State University where he earned 2024 MVC Pitcher of the Year, ABCA/Rawlings All-Midwest Regional Second Team, 2024 NCAA Lexington Regional All-Tournament Team and 2024 MVC All-Conference First Team.
In 2024 at Indiana State, he made 18 appearances on the mound with 16 starts. He had a 7-1 record with a 3.69 ERA over 83 innings. He led the MVC in both ERA (3.69) and opponent batting average (.220). He was 10th in the MVC in strikeouts with 75 and fourth in the MVC with seven wins.
In high school, Cutts was a member of the 2021 regional championship team. He was three-time All-Conference. He received the pitching award in three seasons and the htiting award in his sophomore and senior years.
Louisville will now face Coastal Carolina today at noon The other contest today is Arkansas against LSU at 6.
The World Series continues Thursday with two games and Finals will be Saturday and Sunday with the championship scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on ABC. If necessary another game will be Monday at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN.
