 St. Anthony, Teutopolis, South Central Win Regional Baseball Championships

PARIS — Effingham St. Anthony High School won the Class 2A Paris Regional baseball championship Saturday.

The Bulldogs moved into a 2-0 opening inning lead and easily handled Marshall by a 10-0 count in five innings.

The Bulldogs’ Brock Fearday went four innings on the mound. He did not give up a hit for the win, struck out six and walked three. Joseph Tegeler came on to toss the final inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs finished with seven hits and were aided by three Marshall errors.

Aiden Lauritzen had a triple and drove in three runs while Charley Spour had a single and double, Brady Hatton added a single and two RBI while Vincent Vogel had a single and an RBI. B. Fearday finished with a double and Henry Brent had an RBI.

The Bulldogs advance to the Teutopolis Sectional Wednesday. They will face Columbia at 6:30 p.m. The opener will have Breese Central against Teutopolis at 4 p.m. The winners will then meet Saturday at 10 a.m. for the sectional championship.

At Newton

Teutopolis blanked Newton by a 10-0 count in five innings in the Class 2A Newton Regional Saturday.

Austin Borries threw a no-hitter. He gave up two walks while striking out eight.

The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 3-0 opening inning lead and led 6-0 after two then 10-0 after three. The game ended in the fifth via the 10-run rule.

Jason Kreke led the way offensively with a single, double and two RBI while Dawson Hoene added a single and double. Aidan Niemerg had two singles and Henry Thompson a single and an RBI. Michael Niebrugge added two RBI.

The Wooden Shoes (26-5) advance to their own sectional Wednesday where they will face Breese Central at 4 p.m. In the second contest, St. Anthony takes on Columbia at 6:30 p.m.

The winners will advance to the championship game Saturday at 10 a.m.

At Newton

At Kinmundy

South Central took a 4-0 opening inning lead in its own Class 1A Regional and went on for a 4-2 victory over North Clay/Clay City to win the championship Saturday.

North Clay/Clay City scored its two runs in the second inning.

The Cougars had six hits led by Evan Hoover with a single, double and an RBI while Luke Shumate had two singles and an RBI. Chase Guerrettaz added a single and an RBI and Zane Montes had an RBI.

North Clay/Clay City was led by Cayden Craig with a single and double, Evan Clifton with a single and an RBI and Ben Czyzewski with an RBI.

Callaway Smith went the distance on the mound. He gave up two runs on seven hits, three walks and struck out three.

South Central advances to the Altamont Sectional. The Cougars will meet Pawnee at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. In the opener, Casey-Westfield and Nokomis meet at 4 p.m.

The winners will advance to the championship Saturday at 11 a.m.

At Kinmundy

At Dieterich

Casey-Westfield ended Dieterich’s hopes of a Class 1A regional championship on its own field Saturday.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 in the first inning and Dieterich moved ahead 2-1 in the second and then pushed that to 4-1 in the sixth.

But, the Warriors rallied and came back with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the victory.

Dieterich outhit Casey-Westfield by a 10-6 count. Justin Boerngen had three singles while Jaxon Funneman had a single, triple and an RBI. Andrew Hall added a double and an RBI while Gavin Meinhart had two singles and an RBI. Jackson Icenogle added a double.

At Dieterich

At Pawnee

Neoga saw its season come to a close in the championship game of the Class 1A Pawnee Regional Saturday.

Host Pawnee claimed a 14-1 victory in five innings via the 10-run rule.

Pawnee had 15 hits in the contest.

Neoga finished with four hits, a single and a double each from the bats of Kanen White and Carter Young.

Two Pawnee pitchers did not give up a walk and struck out five.

Pawnee advances to the Altamont Sectional where it will face South Central at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
