Louis Edwin Engel, age 89, lifelong resident of Farina, Illinois passed away on Monday, May 12, 2025 at EverTrue Concordia Village Skilled Care in Springfield, IL.

Masonic Rites and a Graveside service will be held Saturday, May 17 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Farina Cemetery. Memorials may go to Kinmundy Masonic Lodge or donor’s choice. Online condolences may be expressed at www.pagelfuneralhome.com.

Louis was born on April 9, 1936 in Kinmundy, tenth child of 16 children, son of August and Lydia (Bergmann) Engel. He married Laura Bell Sapp on June 6, 1958 in Mason, IL sharing almost 67 years of married life together. Louis graduated from LaGrove High School in Farina in 1954. He was a lifelong grain farmer and had livestock for many years too. Louis spent several years working as a roughneck in the oilfields. Louis was one of the three brothers that owned Engel Brothers Ford, Farina, IL. He was a member of Kinmundy Masonic Lodge for 50 plus years. Louie enjoyed local coffee shops and shared much wisdom with family, friends and neighbors.

He is survived by wife, Laura, two sons Tedd (Mary) Engel of Farina and Sam (Jill) Engel of Morrisville, NC and daughter Maria Rexroad of Athens, IL; 5 grandchildren Travis Engel, Lydia (Cody) Middleton, Rachel (Em) Hunt, Alaina (Jesse) Farley and William Rexroad. 5 Greatgrandchildren, Timber, Zaiden, Jesse, Creek, and Sawyer, and one on the way; siblings: Wendell (Kathy) Engel of Farina, Duane (Donna) Engel of Salem, Don (Theresa) Engel of Kinmundy; sisters: Delores Dorr of New Castle, IN, Mary Palmer of Florida, Jean (Gilbert) Kroening of Carbondale, and Ilene Post of Springfield, sisters-in-law Sue Engel of Kinmundy, Zetta Engel of Springfield, and Alecia Engel of Salem.

He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Lydia Engel; sisters, Norma Young and Minerva Engel; brothers, Melvin, Charles, Calvin, LuVerne, Carol “Bud” and Larry Engel; sisters-in-law Loreine Engel, Marie Engel; brothers-in-law, Fred Young, Jim Palmer and Donald Post.
