Steve was born on April 18, 1943, in Centralia, Illinois, to Odis and Rachel (Hudson) Pattillo. After the loss of his mother at the age of three, Steve was later blessed with a second mother when his father married Chloe Pattillo. Steve was raised in St. Elmo and graduated from St. Elmo High School in 1961. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Commercial Art from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. As gifted artist, Steve had a talent for painting signs and lettering vehicles, with many of his works still seen throughout the community. Steve loved springtime and the bright colors and flowers that go along with it. He also had a lifelong passion for the oil business, which he pursued with great dedication. In addition, Steve and his family enjoyed raising and showing quarter horses—a hobby that brought him much joy. Steve shared more than 30 years with the love of his life, Janet, whose steadfast love and care were especially evident in the past three years as she served as his devoted caregiver. Together, they raised a family and created a life filled with love.

Their children include Laura, Blake, Aaron, daughter-by-choice Judy, Lisa, and Troy. Steve will be remembered for his artistic spirit, tireless work ethic, and his love of family.

Steve is survived by his children: Laura Hansen (Bart) of Joelton, Tennessee; James “Aaron” Pattillo of Effingham; daughter-by-choice Judy Trier of Round Lake, New York; Lisa Chitwood (Ken) of Shiloh, Illinois; Troy Pattillo (Vici) of St. Elmo; and daughter-inlaw Lori Pattillo of Weatherford, Texas. He is also survived by his sister Ann Shyer (Ron) of Brenham, Texas, and eleven beloved grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Steven “Blake” Pattillo; his parents, Odis and Rachel Pattillo; his stepmother, Chloe Pattillo; and his brothers, James “Jim” Russell Pattillo and Dewayne Hamlin.
