Ferrel “Bus” Seaman, 95, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Clay County Hospital in Flora, IL.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025, prior to the service at Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Van Voorhis Cemetery in Hindsboro, IL at 3:00 p.m. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the family to be donated to the Clay County Hospital and Medical Clinics. Online condolences may be shared at www.johnsonandsonsfh.com.
Bus was born on August 24, 1929, in Charleston, IL, the son of Firth and Ione (Ford) Seaman. He married Nevada Edman on May 7, 1952 at the Methodist Church in Hindsboro, IL. She preceded him in death on August 28, 2014. Bus spent his career in education and retired as Superintendent from Beecher City Schools. He was President of the Illinois Retired Teacher Association and was a board member of the Council for the Aging. Bus loved to hunt, boat, and fish with his loved ones. He also had a passion for camping in the truck camper that he built. Bus played baseball at the AAA Minor League level and passed his knowledge of sports onto children as a Little League Basketball coach. Bus’s passion for teaching youth was evident during his early adulthood as a Sunday
School Teacher.
Bus is survived by his sons, Jerry (Chris) Seaman of Fairmount, Kevin Seaman of Effingham, and Jeff (Jeff Christian) Seaman of St. Louis, MO; daughter-in-law, Linda Seaman of Dozier, AL; 6 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and sister-in-law, Maggie Woodworth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nevada; son, Rodney Seaman; grandchild, Keir Watson; 4 sisters; and 1 brother.
