Wendell Eugene McFarland, age 84, of Rose Hill, Illinois, passed away at 10:10 PM – Thursday, May 1, 2025, at his home.
Private services will be held with internment in the Kibler Cemetery northeast of Lis, Illinois. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. The obituary can be viewed, and condolences left at www.meyerfh.com.
Wendell was born on December 21, 1940, in rural Wheeler, Illinois, the son of John and Goldie (Chapman) McFarland. He married Shirley Haack on July 31, 1971, in Springfield, Illinois, and she survives. Wendell graduated from Newton Community High School with the Class of 1959. He worked at Fedder’s in Effingham and retired after 48 years of service. Wendell served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, serving from October 16, 1963, until his honorable discharge on October 15, 1965. Wendell enjoyed tinkering and doing mechanical work.
Wendell is survived by: Wife – Shirley McFarland of Rose Hill, Illinois; Children – Denise (Keith) Meinhart of Island Grove, Illinois; Stacy (Jason) Lee of Neoga, Illinois; and Tony (Joetta) McFarland of Chester, Illinois; Grandchildren – Ashley (Jordan) Thompson, Tyler (Graci) Meinhart, Taylor Lee, Nicole Lee and Aden McFarland; Great Grandchildren – Isabella Thompson and Henric Thompson; Brother – George McFarland of Wheeler, Illinois.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ronald McFarland and Leroy McFarland, and sisters-in-law Carol McFarland and Marietta McFarland.
