Jerry Carr, 78, of Effingham, Illinois, formerly of Windsor, passed away on January 27, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, from complications related to pneumonia.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home. A memorial gathering will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Community Support Systems in Teutopolis or Windsor Harvest Picnic.

Jerry was born on November 26, 1947, the oldest son of Russell and Betty (Hennigh) Carr. Jerry grew up on the family farm, where he was a tremendous help to his parents for many years. Farming and a strong work ethic were deeply ingrained in him. Later in life, he moved to Oakview in Effingham, where he worked to achieve a greater sense of independence. He then moved to his favorite residence, Walnut House, in Teutopolis. Jerry continued his hard work at various jobs within Community Support Systems in Teutopolis. He cleaned rest areas along the interstate, sorted and packaged food items into display boxes for grocery stores, made cardboard corners for furniture, and packaged oil—whatever needed done, he did it, and he was proud of his contributions.
Jerry was very proud to be from Windsor. He went back often to visit and never missed helping at the Windsor Harvest Picnic food tent. He was a loyal St. Louis Cardinals and Fighting Illini fan. He rarely missed a game and loved to discuss what happened afterward. Jerry spent several winters in Florida with his parents and was always ready for a game of horseshoes. In fact, Community Support Systems built a horseshoe pit at Walnut House. Over the last couple of years, Jerry developed an interest in painting. His painting of the family farm was especially meaningful and well loved.

Jerry is survived by his “older sis,” as he always said, Linda (Carr) Rose and his sister-in-law, Janet Carr. He dearly loved all his nieces and nephews, Derrick (Cat) Rose, Allyson (Doug) Bisby, Dave (Diana) Carr, Adriene (Shane) Bowen, Wally (Jennifer) Carr, and Tom Carr. When they married and had children, Jerry found a whole new group of adults and “littles” to love and pester.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother, Michael Carr, and nephew, Tyler Carr.

With deep gratitude, the family thanks the staff and residents of Community Support Systems, who became both friends and family to Jerry and cared for him so dearly. Family and friends are invited to light a candle or share a story at www.lockartgreenfuneralhome.com.
