Charles B. Jared, 91, of Paris, Illinois, passed away at 3:00 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2026, in Effingham, Illinois. He was retired after over forty-four years as owner and operator of the former Art Reese Lumber Company, and he had worked many years as a self-employed contractor.

He was born April 2, 1935, in Paris, the son of the late Wilbur and Irma (Ferguson) Jared. He married Patsy Charlotte Brown on August 17, 1979, in Rockford, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 18, 2022.

Survivors include four children, Cyd (Bob) Wolf of Burlington, Vermont, Aimee (Ian) Moore of Effingham, Bryce Sutton of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Joell (Eddie) Barrientes of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Olivia and Caroline Wolf both of Burlington, Isabel Moore (Ben Lumpp) of New Castle, Washington, Sophia Moore of Lexington, Kentucky, Eli Moore of Glen Carbon, Illinois, and Wyatt and Chloe Barrientes both of Houston; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon and Jim Jared, and a sister, Elisabeth Bennett.

Mr. Jared served in the United States Navy from 1957-1959 and attended Indiana State University. He had served on the Board of Directors of the Edgar County/Prospect Bank for twenty-nine years and had also served many years on the board of the Edgar County Children’s Home. Although he loved his work, co-workers, and customers, he also found joy in traveling with his wife and family. The Jareds took many trips throughout the world, including Italy, Austria, Ireland, France, Thailand, and Scotland. Charlie will be remembered for his caring nature, loyal friendship, and quiet generosity.

For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or to a children’s charity of the donor’s choice.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2026, at Edgar Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Post #211. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at Templeton Funeral Home in Paris.
