Katherine Louise “Kathy” Grobengieser of Mason, Illinois, passed away the evening of April 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, service, and deep devotion to those she held dear.

Kathy proudly graduated from nursing school and dedicated her life to caring for others. Through her work and her heart, she touched and saved more lives than could ever be counted—a true testament to her calling and character. On September 8, 1979, she married the love of her life, Gary Grobengieser. Together, they built a beautiful life and family.

She was a proud and loving mother to Aaron (Dr. Patricia Chaffin) Grobengieser of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, and Luke (Amanda) Grobengieser of Mason, Illinois. Kathy was blessed with six cherished grandchildren: Ryanne, Henry, Reid, Hunter, Chad, and Eileen, who brought her immense joy and pride.

She had a deep love for life and found happiness in traveling, fishing, watching the grandkids participate in sports, and loved having multiple craft projects going at the same time. Above all, Kathy treasured time spent with her family and friends and had a remarkable gift for helping others.

She is survived by her siblings: Richard (Joy) Bolin of Dalton Gardens, Idaho; Steve (Sandy) Bolin of Lakeside, California; Tim (Tammy) Bolin of Patoka, Illinois; and her sister, Anna (Gary) Goldstein of Altamont, Illinois; along with many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Lillian Grobengieser of St. Elmo, Illinois; brothers-in-law Eric (Barb) Grobengieser of Altamont, Illinois, and Bob (Debbie) Grobengieser of Brownstown, Illinois; and sister-in-law Sherri (Joe) Strullmyer of Farina, Illinois.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Pastor Richard Bolin and Lois Smith, as well as her father-in-law, Arlin Grobengieser.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 5, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Gieseking Funeral Home in Altamont, Illinois. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 6, at 10:00 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with Rev. Marcus Manley officiating and one hour of visitation prior to the service. Christian burial will follow at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Kathy’s honor to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.

Kathy will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her servant’s heart, and the love she gave so freely to all who knew her.
