Mike was a man known for his humor and unmistakable personality. Sweet but feisty, he had a way of bringing laughter into every room he entered. He was always quick with a joke and never one to pass up a game—especially if he could bend the rules just enough to claim a win. His playful spirit and love for life left a lasting impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. He had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Whether he was fishing, mushroom hunting, shooting trap, or hunting with his grandkids, those moments meant everything to him. They weren’t just hobbies—they were opportunities to teach, laugh, and create memories that his family will cherish forever. Mike took particular pride in shooting trap at St. Peter’s Sportsman Club at Gatch Lake, a place that brought him both joy and community. Mike also had a deep passion for music and loved to play whenever he could, sharing that joy with those around him. He was especially proud of the band he started, encouraging his family to join and be a part of something that meant so much to him. Music was not just something he enjoyed—it was something he used to bring people together. He was also incredibly proud of his work as a chainsaw carver—one of his favorite jobs. Through his carving, he transformed simple pieces of wood into meaningful works of art, leaving behind not only cherished memories but lasting creations that reflect his talent, patience, and pride in his craft. Above all, Mike shared a special bond with his family, especially his grandchildren. He took great pride in each of them and treasured every moment spent together. His love, guidance, and humor will live on in the stories they tell and the memories they hold close.

Mike is survived by his children: Chris (Lynn) Rhodes of Shelbyville, IL; Wendy Rhodes of Brownstown, IL, and Julie (JR) Lewis of Flora, IL; and he also leaves behind nine grandchildren: Blake (Tabby), Taylor (David), Austin (Taylor), Haley, Nick (Raelynn), Sydnee, Ashley (Mark), Braedi (Wade), and Brittany (Dalton); as well as his great-grandchildren: Adrianne, Emma, Jax, Collin, Hadleigh, Landon, Hayden, Huxley, Haisley, Harper, Scarlet, and Hazel. He is also survived by his sisters Marjorie, Paulette, Sharon, Susie, and Penny, and his brother Joe, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Ida Rhodes; his son, Michael Joe; his brother, Pat; and his sisters Billy Joe, Peggy, and Mary.

Mike will be remembered for his quick wit, his loving heart, and the joy he brought to everyone around him. His legacy of laughter, love, and unforgettable memories will continue to live on through his family and all who were blessed to know him. John 3:16
