Shelly Steele, 58, of Mattoon, IL passed away at 6:30 pm on Thursday March 19, 2026, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday March 25, 2026, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo. There will be a one-hour visitation prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. The burial will be in the Drummond Cemetery.
Shelly was born on July 10, 1967, in Decatur, IL to Larry and Marcella (Barnes) Clagg. She married Ed Steele on September 3, 2010.
Survivors include her loving husband Ed and 3 fur babies: Sugar, Cherry, and Wyatt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Jim Clagg.
Shelly was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University. In the past, Shelly worked as the manager of Beacon Specialized Living. Shelly enjoyed 80’s music, going to concerts at the Illinois State Fair, helping her husband farm, driving tractors, mowing, sewing and she was the record and bookkeeper for their rental properties. Shelly, with her mother, owned and operated a cookie bakery called Beatin’ Eggs. Shelly was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sullivan, IL.
