Calvin “Newt” Noll, age 68, of Clay City passed from this life on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at home.

He was born June 14, 1957 in Olney, Illinois to Joseph A. and Julia (Hilderbrand) Noll. He married Carletta Kay Powell on June 30, 1979 at Bethel United Methodist Church in rural Clay City and their 46 years of marriage was spent among a host of loving friends.

Their early marriage was spent in downtown Clay City and in 2000 they moved to his grandmother’s farm north of town. This was his absolute happy place where he raised cattle. He was often heard in the morning saying he was going to see his girls.

In his early town years he served as a city councilman, was active with the Clay City fire department and was one of a group who formed a dive team for the fire department. He was employed by Abbott Tank Co. until he established Noll’s Welding Service in the early 80’s at Clay City’s new industrial park. He retired from welding after 25 years of fabricating oilfield tanks and repairing farm equipment.

Newt loved being among friends at the 111 Club, cooking at numerous fish fries, trout fishing with friends in Missouri, annual attendance at squirrel camp and any other get-togethers with his Ingraham/Wendelin friends. He loved kids and was the family cut-up uncle who let them get by with too much and assigned them a nickname.

He leaves behind his loving wife Carletta, two sisters, Judy Murphy and Karen Morris and his much-loved Aunt Ruth Thacker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Judy Noll, siblings, Stewart and Vicky, his grandparents, Leo and Effie Noll and Rudolph and Leola Hilderbrand, special Aunt and Uncles, Hilda Bradham, Curtis Noll and Oral Noll.

The funeral service will be held for Newt at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, with visitation from 5:00 PM until service time at the funeral home. Friends and family are encouraged to dress casually.

Cremation Rites will be accorded after services.
