Janet L. Kistner, 76, of Newton, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, Illinois, surrounded by her family.
Janet was born April 25, 1949 in Olney, the daughter of Earl and Norma (Johnson) Clark. She married Herman Kistner on September 16, 1967 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Newton, and he survives.
Janet was a 1967 graduate of Newton Community High School and was a longtime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, where she was also active in the Ladies Sodality. She retired after many years from Kirchner’s Building Centers, formerly known as Holts, in Newton. Janet enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. She loved playing Euchre with friends and spending time with her family. Janet was wonderful in the kitchen, and she was known for her homemade noodles and pies. She will be dearly missed.

Grandchildren, Nathan (Whitney) Zumbahlen, Kylie (Nathan) Garbe, Makenzie (Derek) Hutchison, Miranda (Korey) Bunselmeyer, Jenna, Ashtyn, and Avery Ochs, Kaitlyn, Grant, Alayna, and Eli Ochs, Natalie, Nora, Dylan, and Collin Kistner
Great grandchildren, Austin, Caroline, Clara, Ryerson, Huxleigh, Wrenley, and Avery
Sister, Suzanne Clark-Thornton of Newton
Sisters and brothers-in-law, Jerome (Janet) Kistner, Diane (Gerald) Schackmann, David (Becky) Kistner, and Mary (Joe) Correll, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Chris Kistner; father and mother in-law, Kenneth and Pauline Kistner; brother-in-law, Jim Kistner.
The family of Janet Kistner would like to thank the staff at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit for their dedication, care, and love during her time there.
Visitation for friends and family will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Janet at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, with a visitation beginning one hour prior.
Interment will follow the mass at Holy Cross Cemetery in Wendelin.
Memorials can be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church.
