Georgia Anne Evans, a lifelong educator, devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished member of the Beecher City community, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of family. Born on July 9, 1961, in Shelbyville, to Leonard and Constance (Florey) Stewart, Georgia’s life was marked by her unwavering commitment to her family, her passion for education, and her love for the written word.

Georgia’s journey began in the quaint town of Beecher City (Holland), where she grew up surrounded by the love of family. It was there that she met her childhood sweetheart, Jeffrey Evans. The high school sweethearts were married on September 8, 1979, and went on to enjoy 46 years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising a family. Together, they made their home in the picturesque town of Beecher City (Holland), where Georgia’s roots ran deep.

She is survived by a loving family that includes her mother, Constance Stewart; her husband, Jeffrey Evans; their children, Steve (Melissa) Evans, Danny (Felisha) Evans, all of Beecher City, and Valerie (Christopher) Bohner of State Road, North Carolina; her adored 11 grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren, with two more on the way; her siblings, Kent (Becky) Stewart of Commerce, Georgia, and Barbara (Michael) Wheeler of Cowden, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her faithful dog, Gizmo, also survives her, having been a constant source of joy in her life.

Georgia was preceded in death by her father, Leonard and her infant son, John.

Georgia’s dedication to education was evident in her academic achievements. A 1979 graduate of Beecher City High School, she furthered her education by obtaining an associate degree from Lake Land College in Mattoon. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Eastern Illinois University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education. She proudly served as a special education teacher at Vandalia grade school for many years, touching the lives of countless students with her kindness and expertise. Outside of her professional life, Georgia was an accomplished writer and an avid reader. Her passion for storytelling led her to become the author of Christian Romantic Suspense novels. When not immersed in her writing, she could be found enjoying a good book, taking long walks, or indulging in her favorite television show, Dateline. Camping was another joy in her life, if her laptop was by her side. She was blessed to have taken Devin and Melanie’s “dream vacation,” and enjoyed every moment of it.
