Frederick Allen “Fred” Naber, 88, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 12:54 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2026, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Cornerstone Community Fellowship Church in Shelbyville with Kevin Woods officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2026, in the church. Burial will be in Findlay Cemetery, Findlay, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Shelbyville FFA or Okaw Valley FFA.
Fred was born on September 25, 1937, in Moweaqua, IL, the son ofClifford and Allegra (Oswald) Naber. He graduated from Macon High School in the Class of 1955. Fred married Mary Ellen Yantis on September 22, 1957, at the Findlay United Methodist Church. Fred began farming with his father in Macon and was a lifelong farmer, owning and operating Naber Grain. Fred served on the Mt. Zion State Bank Board, Illinois Wheat Association Board, Westervelt Mutal Insurance Board, and the Shelby County Zoning Board. He was also a member of the Shelby County Farm Bureau, Shelby County Shrine Club, Jackson Masonic Lodge #53, and Shelbyville Moose Lodge #1294.
Fred is survived by his daughters, Debbie Williams of Findlay, IL, Pam Manship and husband Kevin of Shelbyville, IL, and Brenda Naber of Shelbyville, IL; brother, Cliff Naber and wife Deb of Franklin, TN; sister, Janice Lash and husband Marvin of Elwin, IL; grandchildren, Scott Darnell, Michael Williams and wife Molly, Kevin Darnell, Miranda Layman and husband Ross, and Garrett Manship and fiancée Aren; great grandchildren, Skyler Darnell, Khloe Hall, Case Darnell, Raeley Darnell, Malyah Darnell, Arie Williams, Callaway Darnell, Emory Layman, Gatlin Darnell, Rhett Layman, Austin Ryherd and Braden Ryherd; great-great grandson, Niarey Darnell; and his grand dogs, Buddy and Memphis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary on October 24, 2024; son-in-law, Michael E. Williams; nephew, James Lash; and grand dogs, Molly, Meshu, Goliath, and Freddy.
