Donald F. Meyer (90) of Teutopolis

Donald F. Meyer of Teutopolis, IL passed away peacefully on Monday, January 19th, 2026 surrounded by family. Donald was born on January 4th, 1936 to Andrew and Kathryn (Laux) Meyer. He celebrated his 90th birthday earlier this year surrounded by friends and family.

Donald married Gloria Kibler on October 11, 1958, and they spent almost 63 years together before Gloria preceded Donald in death on June 10, 2021. Donald was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers Eugene, Harold, Gerald (died in infancy), and William, sister-in-law Joyce Meyer, and nephew Tony Meyer.

Donald and Gloria are survived by their four children- Beth (Greg) Elmore of Dieterich, Illinois, Don Meyer of Gila, Illinois, Ben Meyer of Heyworth, Illinois, and Mary (Ron) Sturgeon of Springfield, Illinois. They also shared seven grandchildren- Lisa (Bill) Zumbahlen, Michelle (Tony) Beckman, Jason (Ashli Fenton) Elmore, Morgan Sturgeon, Bailey (Steve) Koefoed, Travis (Alison) Meyer, and Derek Meyer, and ten great-grandchildren- Claire (Caleb) Wendt, Levi (fiancée Carly), Ella, Ann, Sara, and Marie Zumbahlen, Jack, Joni, and Jenna Beckman, and Madeline Meyer. Donald is also survived by sister-in-law Judy Meyer, Margie Probst, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Donald served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. He went on to become a proud member of UA Local 149 Plumbers & Pipefitters, working at Wente Plumbing & Heating and eventually retiring from Eastern Illinois University. In his free time, Donald loved to mushroom hunt, work on and maintain numerous rental properties, and work in his shop. He especially loved traveling with his wife, Gloria. They took the family camping often when the children were young, and in their later years traveled with friends as well. Donald also spent many hours gardening and shelling pecans. He shared his bounty of blueberries, asparagus, pecans, and zucchini with all.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, January 23, 2026 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial to follow in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to the time of Mass, Friday at the church, in the St. Clare Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to HSHS Hospice Care or CEFS Meals on Wheels. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Teutopolis.
