Marcella Maye Allsop, 94, of Cowden, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, at the Pana Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Marcella was born on April 7, 1931, at home in Stewardson, the daughter of Floyd and Dongola (Barnes) Tarrant. Her life was a testament to the enduring power of love and family, as she was a devoted partner to her beloved husband, Carl L. Allsop, whom she married on April 8, 1950. Their remarkable 75-year union was filled with the joys and challenges of raising a close-knit family.

Marcella’s legacy is carried on by her husband, Carl, of Cowden; her loving children, Jim (Jackie) Allsop of Cowden, Floyd (Cathy) Allsop of Monticello, Kevin Allsop of Monte, Louisiana, and Carla (Kevin) Davis of Moweaqua; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Walker of Effingham and several nieces and nephews who will all miss her deeply.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her sisters Rachael, Jen, Helen, and Mary.

Throughout her life, Marcella embraced the role of homemaker with grace and dedication. Her home was an abode of comfort and joy, especially during the festive Christmas season which she so dearly loved. She poured her heart into cooking for her extensive family, ensuring that every gathering was a memorable feast. Marcella’s commitment to her faith was evident in her long-standing involvement with the Cowden Christian Church, where she served with devotion and enthusiasm. Marcella’s love for her community was reflected in her numerous contributions and volunteer efforts. She was instrumental in creating the Cowden Memorial Wall, a heartfelt project that honors local families and businesses. Her civic spirit shone through her work in volunteering her assistance for the annual Cowden Pioneer Days, and her nurturing nature was displayed in her role as a Cub Scout Den Mother. Her passion for her community and its history will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Stewardson Cemetery with Pastor Doretta Gordon officiating. Memorials in Marcella’s honor may be made to the Cowden First Responders and may be mailed to Lockart-Green Funeral Home, 302 W. Main St., Shelbyville, IL 62565.
