Lonnie E. Barnes, 59, of Jewett, IL passed away at 1:45 am on Friday January 2, 2026, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday January 17, 2026, in the Harmony Cemetery. Celebration of life services will be held at the Greenup Fire Hall immediately following the graveside service. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup is assisting the family.

Lonnie was born on June 25, 1966, in Effingham, to Ernie and Donna Jane (Dudley) Barnes. He married Teresa Bland on June 6, 1992.

Survivors include his wife, son Coty (Megan) Barnes, daughter Nikki Poe (Jory Matteson), brother Guy Barnes, and grandchildren Ezequiel Plunkett, Kyeslynn Barnes, Allie Barnes, Grace Poe and Emelia Poe.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lonnie dedicated over three decades to the Autobody repair industry, establishing himself as an expert in his field. His commitment to sharing his knowledge led him to serve as a hands-on Collision and Paint Repair instructor at Olney Central College for seven years, where he guided and mentored students in the trade. In addition to his professional achievements, Lonnie was deeply involved with the Greenup Fire Protection District, serving as a firefighter for forty-one years. His passion for supporting the next generation was evident in his devotion to the “Explorers,” a junior firemen program, where he invested significant time encouraging and training young people interested in fire service. Lonnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating and loved to sing.
