Larry Hymes, 83, of Neoga, Illinois passed away peacefully in his winter home on December 28, 2025, in Sarasota, Florida. Born on December 7, 1942, in Chapin, Illinois, Larry lived a life marked by dedication—to his family, his profession, and his community.
Larry pursued an impressive academic path in civil engineering, earning an associate degree followed by both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in the field. His passion for engineering extended beyond practice into education. He played a pivotal role at Lakeland Community College, where he developed the civil engineering curriculum and taught with commitment until his retirement in 2001. His work helped shape the careers of countless students and left a lasting impact on the institution.
Before beginning his professional career, Larry served honorably in the Untied States Air Force for four years. His sense of duty continued throughout his life—he volunteered as a fireman for 17 years, offering his time and energy to protect and serve his community.
Larry was known for being a dependable and honest man. These qualities were evident not only in his professional life but also in how he approached family and friendships. He found joy in simple pleasures—fishing trips that brought peace and reflection, and rounds of golf that combined competition with camaraderie. He loved to travel with his wife during his retirement years.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Madonna; daughter Cynthia (Jeff); son Clint (Jacque); grandchildren Brandon, Brooke, and Ashley; great-grandchildren Mila, Tatum, Gray, and Jack; and siblings Mike, Pat, Tom, and John. He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Lloyd.
A man of integrity and quiet strength, Larry leaves behind a legacy of service and love. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
