Millie R. “Sis” Varvel, 73, of St. Elmo, IL, formerly of Danville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at Haven of St. Elmo in St. Elmo, IL.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Danville, IL. Online condolences may be shared at www.johnsonandsonsfh.com. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, IL is assisting the family.
Millie was born on December 22, 1951 in Danville, IL, the daughter of Edward and Rose (Barrick) Haton. She first married William Loewenstein Sr. and to this union, one son, William Jr. was born. She later married Roger Varvel, and to this union, one daughter, Lisa was born. Millie was a compassionate person with a good sense of humor. She was very funny and had a nickname for everyone. She was social and talkative, often being a storyteller. She liked to gamble and take casino trips with family. She enjoyed going shopping, playing bingo, and chatting with old folks. She loved her grandkids and her dog Buddy.
Millie is survived by her children, William Jr. (Kelly) Loewenstein of Danville and Lisa (Doug) Greuel of Stewardson; grandchildren, Lindsey (Cody) Comstock, Kaitlyn Loewenstein, Kyle Loewenstein, Craig Greuel, and Schafer Greuel; great-grandchild, Colsen Comstock; sisters, Karen (Timothy) Moulton and Linda (Kim) Giles; sister-in-law, Debbie Haton; many nieces and nephews; and special friends Ivan and Connie Ford.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger Varvel; siblings, William Pease, Eddie Dean Haton, Robert Haton, twin brothers Ronald and Donald Haton, John Haton, and James Haton.
