Dorothy Jean Warren, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away on December 6, 2025, at the age of 90, into the loving arms of Jesus.

She was born on Christmas Day in 1934 to John and McClovia (Abroms) Hilligoss, Dorothy’s life was a testament to the power of unwavering commitment and the joy of lifelong companionship. In 1952, Dorothy married the love of her life, Frank Warren, and together they embarked on a journey that would span over seven decades, filled with love, laughter, and the shared toil of farm life. Their union was a true partnership, with Dorothy working at General Electric for ten years before joining the farm business full-time as a mother, homemaker and diligent bookkeeper for their farm and business, Warren Grain. Dorothy’s home and kitchen were the heart of her family.

She is survived by her children, Howard (Kathy) Warren of Mattoon and Krista Droop of Findlay; daughter-in-law, Sherry Warren of Sullivan; her grandchildren, Macy (Andy) Cole of Windsor and Devin (Jasmyn) Warren of Gays; her greatgrandchildren, Holden, Oliver, Lane Cole, and Vayda Warren, and many friends and relatives who will all miss her dearly.

Dorothy had many hobbies and interests. She found joy in simple pleasures like gardening and using her hands to always build, bake or make something special for others. She loved nature and collected many things. Her favorites ranged from strawberries to birds and many things in-between. She loved refinishing old furniture, making lamps, birdhouses and tending to her garden. Known for her precision, lunch was served at 11:00 a.m. sharp, and the afternoon snack was delivered to the field at 3:30 p.m. without fail. Her famous potato salad was a staple at family gatherings, and her love for cooking and baking filled her home with warmth and delightful aromas. Dorothy’s direct nature and her ability to tell it like it was were qualities that her family and friends enjoyed. She was generous, selfless, and loving—a matriarch who led by example which they all admired. Frank affectionately called her “Puggy,” a nickname that became so dear to him that he named part of their field “Pug’s Patch” in her honor. Dorothy was a devoted member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church community in Shelbyville.

Her grandparents, parents, beloved husband Frank, and son-in-law Michael Droop, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor with Reverend Linda Trent officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Hilligoss Cemetery. Memorials in Dorothy’s honor may be made to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and may be mailed to Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, P.O. Box 52, Shelbyville, IL 62565.
