Our beloved brother, Glen Arthur Johnson, of Findlay, IL, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2025, while celebrating with family – those he loved best. Our hearts are filled with sorrow for the loss of our eldest sibling
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville IL. Visitation will be from noon – 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Findlay Cemetery, with military rites by the Garrett-Baldridge American Legion Post #725 of Windsor, IL. Memorials may be given to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
Glen was born on October 21, 1946, in Shelbyville, IL, to Donald Burl and Pauline Mae (Allen) Johnson. After surviving falling into a well, being almost run over, falling onto a picket fence and sustaining a huge splinter in his cheek, near peritonitis from cholecystitis and surgery and many days in ICU at Richard L. Roudebush VA Hospital in Indianapolis, where they gave him excellent care and the long deserved recognition for his service to our country, two tours in Vietnam as a United States Navy Seabee diesel mechanic at DaNang, Glen lived to reach his 79th birthday this past October. We enjoyed listening to him tell about his life and times on our family farm. He saved our father from certain peril twice for which we are forever grateful. He had an incredible memory and knowledge, and we always came away realizing he was a great man and how privileged we were to have him as our elder. He was calm and carried on. He and Stanley farmed together. He loved going to tractor pulls and worked for many years as a diesel mechanic with Stanley at Johnson Diesel. They had a tradition of camping and fishing at Ramsey Lake on Father’s Day because Dad loved to. Glen was active in Jaycees and held the office of president. Glen had the privilege of taking the Honor Flight to Washington, DC, on November 3, 2022, with his nephew, Brandon, as guardian.
He leaves behind his heartbroken siblings, Stanley and Barb Johnson of Shelbyville, IL, Donna and Mike Oldham of Findlay, IL, Kathy Swarms of Shelbyville, IL, and Virginia and Dan Defend of Monticello, IL. He was a beloved uncle to Alison and Roscoe Hubner of Shelbyville, IL, Rachel Lejeune of Wailuku, Maui, Brandon Swarms of Herrin, IL, Eric and Rachel Defend of Monticello, IL, Evan Defend of Monticello, IL, Emily and David Erickson of Cisco, IL; and a great uncle to Cole Johnson and Bree of Assumption, IL, Jacqueline Johnson of Shelbyville, IL, Katelyn Johnson of Shelbyville, IL, Dylan and Hannah Hubner of Shelbyville, IL, Paige Hubner and Tanner Parks of Shelbyville, IL, Katie Lejeune of Johnson City, TN, Megan Lejeune of Johnson City, TN, Audrianna Defend of Monticello, IL, Isaac Defend of Monticello, IL, Elijah Defend of Monticello, IL, Annamarie Defend of Monticello, IL, and Kirsten Erickson of Cisco, IL; and great great uncle to Tucker Hubner and Lindy Hubner both of Shelbyville, IL.
