Jerry E. VanDyke, 78, of Decatur, passed away Friday, October 24, 2025, at The Loft Rehabilitation of Decatur.
A Memorial Service Celebrating Jerry’s life will be held at 6 pm on Monday, November 3, 2025, at First Christian Church (3350 N. MacArthur Road, Decatur, Illinois). A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the church as well. Memorials can be made to the Northeast Community Fund. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.
Jerry was born in Effingham, Illinois in January of 1947, the son of Ralph VanDyke and Maxine Adams. He was a 1965 graduate of Dieterich High School. He attended Eastern Illinois University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree. He taught at Mt. Zion High School for 33 years. Jerry married Elizabeth in November of 1972. Jerry was a big Nascar Fan, loved keeping his cars clean and tending to his yard.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his sister Jene (John) Brentlinger of Flora, Illinois, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
