Marie Dye passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, at her residence in Columbus, Indiana, at the age of 67. Born on July 11, 1958, in Vandalia, Illinois, to Merle and Mary (Logue) Underwood, Marie’s gentle spirit and nurturing presence touched the lives of many throughout her remarkable journey on this earth.
A visitation will be on Friday, November 21 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Kull Funeral Chapel in Altamont, Illinois. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the Kull Funeral Home.
Dedicated to a life of service and care, Marie spent 30 years as a registered nurse, a career that began at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois. Her passion for helping others was evident in the compassionate care she provided to her patients. Marie’s unwavering commitment to her profession continued until her retirement from Lakeland Rehab Center in Effingham, where she left a lasting impact on both colleagues and those under her care.
Marie’s interests were as diverse as they were heartfelt. An ardent supporter of the Cubs and the Fighting Illini, she found joy in the thrills of the game and the camaraderie of her fellow fans. Her creative spirit shone through in her love for diamond art, a hobby that allowed her to express her artistic side and create beauty in intricate detail.
Family was the cornerstone of Marie’s world. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and her beloved dogs, Bella and Benny. Her home was a haven of warmth and laughter, where friends were always welcomed and became part of her extended family.
She is survived by her son, Eugene (Sadie) Dye of Scipio, IN; daughters, Jessica (Jason) Antrim of Beecher City, IL and Darla Dye of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Carl (Linda) Underwood of Beecher City, IL, Gene Underwood of Tyler, TX and Gary (Sheila) Underwood of St. Elmo, IL; sister, Melissa (Tim) Mella of Springfield, IL; grandchildren, Mykaela (Nick), Madison, Jeslyn, Max, Hunter, Greyson, Jaxon, Amelia, Sophie, and Zackary; great-grandchildren, Luna and Kalliope.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene Dye; son, Jason Dye; brother, John Underwood; and sister, Marilyn Underwood.
In honoring Marie’s memory, we reflect on the love she shared and the peace she brought to those around her. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness, and her memory will be treasured forever.
She wanted people to wear Cubs or Illini attire.
