Frederic Porter “Fred” Meyer (79) of rural Vienna

Frederic Porter “Fred” Meyer, age 79, of rural Vienna, Illinois, passed away at 2:36 AM – Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Mercy Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Funeral services celebrating Fred’s life will be held at 2:00 PM – Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Bailey Funeral Home, 705 North 1st Street (N Route 45) Vienna, Illinois, with Rodney Gholson officiating. The burial will be in Vienna Fraternal Cemetery in Vienna, Illinois. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM – Friday, November 14, 2025, at the funeral home. In loving memory of Fred, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Frederic Porter, better known as Fred, was born on August 5, 1946, in Eldorado, Illinois the third son of Emil J. and Anna Mae (Porter) Meyer. Fred graduated from Vienna High School in May 1965 and furthered his education at Paducah Community College and at Southern Illinois University. Continuing the family tradition of farming, Fred managed Meyer Farms, established in 1958. He was involved in his community, where he had served as a Johnson County Commissioner. Fred was united in marriage to Trisha Hudson on October 25, 2006, in Marion, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, Trisha, and his children – Jason Frederic (Lisa) Meyer of Newton, Illinois, Derek Gene Meyer (Kaycee Gingerich) of Vienna, Illinois, and Alexis Ann Meyer (Dwight Bassett) of Nashville, Tennessee; granddaughters – Finley Jo Meyer, Electa Ann Meyer, and Sloane Mae Meyer. Fred also leaves behind his father-in-law and mother-in-law – Fred and Gayla Hudson and a brotherin-law – Chad Hudson all of Vienna, Illinois; sisters-in-law – Donna Meyer of Carrier Mills, Illinois and Anita Meyer of Vienna, Illinois; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brothers – Gerald Lee “Jerry” Meyer and Richard Keith Meyer.
