Greg W. Gordon, 47, of Beecher City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, at home surrounded by the love of family.
Born on June 22, 1978, in Shelbyville, Greg was the son of Gary Wayne and Glenna Marie (Albright) Gordon. His life was marked by his deep commitment to his family, his passion for the outdoors, and his unwavering faith. Greg graduated from Beecher City High School in 1996, where he first showcased his talent and love for basketball. He furthered his education by earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1999. On July 8, 2017, Greg married Tammy Duckworth. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the joyous hustle and bustle of a large, blended family.
Greg is survived by his father, Gary Gordon of Beecher City; Greg’s devoted wife, Tammy Gordon, and their children, who were the pride and joy of his life. His legacy will live on through his daughter, Brittany (Andrew) Koester and granddaughter Savanah Nicole; his sons, Danny (Samantha) Stephens, and their children Callie Wren, Josephine Blair, and Sawyer Wayne; and Matthew Stephens and his daughter Summer Lynn. His presence will also be missed by his sister, Gina (Neil) James, and nieces Kylie and Mackenzie, all of whom he adored and cherished deeply.
A man of great faith, Greg was a member of the Beecher City Church of Christ and attended Greenland Baptist Church, where he formed many enduring friendships and found great spiritual solace. Greg’s interests were as wide-ranging as they were heartfelt. He found peace in the solitude of hunting and fishing, and joy in the rumble of trains. Many will fondly remember the
mouthwatering aroma of smoked meat that signaled a family gathering at the Gordon home followed by a fierce game of Uno. These Sunday dinners were a testament to Greg’s belief in the sanctity of family time, a tradition that will be carried on in his honor.
Greg was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Glenna Gordon, and his grandparents, Harold and Mary Albright and Everett and Louester Gordon.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Beecher City Church of Christ with Pastor Kevin Allen officiating. Burial will take place in Hubbartt Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Beecher City Church of Christ. Memorials in Greg’s honor may be made to Greenland Baptist Church.
