John Edward Shook, age 47, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 10:50 AM – Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at his home.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM – Monday, October 13, 2025, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with a service at 6:00 PM, with Loretta Tolliver officiating. John was born on December 27, 1977, in Quantico, Virginia, the son of Cecil Edward “Chip” and Janet (Gibson) Shook. Growing up near the beach, he enjoyed spending time surfing and hanging out on the beach with his family and friends. John played baseball as a kid and a love for the sport he never lost. As an adult he still enjoyed watching baseball and football. John had a unique sense of humor and enjoyed being the family goofball. He loved his pets, dogs Emma, Paisley and Chopper and cat Waffles.
John is survived by: Mother – Janet Shook of Swansboro, North Carolina; Father – Cecil “Chip” (Linda) Shook of Brazil, Indiana; Fiancé – Billie Cavazos of Newton, Illinois; Sister – Sarah Shook (Danny) of Swansboro, North Carolina; Nephew – Aiden Hunter Reed; Billie’s Children – Daniel, Alexis, Alyssa, Dakota and Alandra Cavazos; Grandchildren – Benjamin, Freyja and Everett.
John was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Jackie and Connie Gibson.
