Danny Bockhorn, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and pillar of the Effingham community passed away on Sept 30, 2025 at the age of 85.

Born and raised in Walsh, IL, Danny’s early years were shaped by hard farm work. On the family farm, he worked the land with his father Vernon with horses and a plow until the arrival of their
first tractor – Ford N8 which marked a turning point and ignited a lifelong work ethic that would define him. As a teenager, he made a name for himself as a star athlete at Sparta High School, where his shooting skills on the basketball court are still remembered by classmates and fans – Danny had a mention for All State. It was also at Sparta High where he met his match, marrying the
homecoming queen, Pauline Stevenson, and beginning a life full of devotion, joy and shared dreams for 65 years of marriage. Danny started his career at a young age with World Color Press in Sparta, IL. This career led him to the Effingham IL community where he climbed the ladder to become press room manager. He earned the respect of colleagues and built a career of integrity, leadership and dedication. When someone would say that they worked for Danny, Danny would reply, “no, we work together.” Outside of work, Danny’s passion burned bright on the Fast Pitch Softball field. As the ACE for teams like D-J’s Party Supply and Moon’s 66, he earned a formidable reputation that extended beyond Effingham. Known for his “ferocious” fastball and command of the mound, Danny achieved feats that few could claim – he threw no-hitters, played at nationals and even led his team to a 2 to 1 victory over the famed King and his Court. Danny will be remembered for the way he lifted up his family, inspired teammates, and brought strong leadership to World Color Press. Most importantly, he will be remembered for bringing warmth and wit into every room. If you knew Danny, then you were friends.

Danny is survived by his wife, Pauline; children, Jeff (Joanne), Greg, Nicole (Dan), and Luke; grandchildren, Paige, Jacob, Rachel (Kyle), Audrey, Sophie, Bailey, Cannon, Chloe, Garrett (Justine), and Nathan (Allison); and great-grandchildren, Addison, Emerson, and Addie.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, IL is assisting the family. Online condolences may be shared at www.johnsonandsonsfh.com.
