                    Daniel J. “Dan” Doedtman, 84, a retired dairy farmer from Green Creek, passed away at his residence on Friday, September 19, 2025.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Green Creek. Per Dan’s wishes, his body was donated to science at the Mayo Clinic. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Green Creek. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham.
Daniel was born on August 7, 1941, at his family home, the son of Edward and Hilda (Willenborg) Doedtman. He graduated from Teutopolis High School in 1959 and went on to attend the University of Illinois, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science in 1963. In 1965, he received his Master’s Degree in Dairy Science from the University of Illinois.
Following his education, Daniel joined the Illinois National Guard and began his career with Commercial Solutions Corporation in Terre Haute, Indiana, where he worked until returning home to become a full-time dairy farmer with his brother, Alphonse. He also served on the Effingham County Conservation Board, retiring in 2020 after 42 years of dedicated service.
Daniel was an avid reader, especially of history books and The Wall Street Journal. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Green Creek, where he served as a lector for many years.
He is survived by his sister, Rosalie (Harold) Lohman; brothers, John (Carolyn) Doedtman, Alphonse Doedtman, and Edward Jr. (Lenora) Doedtman; as well as a niece and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and a great-great-niece and great-great-nephews.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents.
