Hilda M. Shumaker, 92, of Effingham died at 2:27 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2025 at her home.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2025 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont. Visitation will from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Arborcrest Memorial Park, Effingham. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Hilda Mae Shumaker was born on Sunday, September 11, 1932 in Jackson Township, rural Altamont, IL to Jesse and Birdie (Smith) Higgs. She married Olin Shumaker on June 18, 1952 and to this union 5 children were born. In addition to raising her family she worked for and retired from World Color Press, Effingham. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Effingham where her church family was very important to her. She was happy and content and enjoyed crossword puzzles and enjoyed volunteering at The Cross with her friend, Tiny. Above all, she enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by: her son, Alan and (Joyce) Shumaker of Mason; daughters, Marian (Tim) Fulk of Farina, Carol (Matthew) Hardiek of Newton, Carla (Henry, Jr.) Buhrmann of Mason, and Pamela (Miles) Hienen of Louisiana; sister-in-law, Edie Higgs of Altamont; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Hilda was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Melvin (Mary) Higgs and Leavitt Higgs; sisters, Wanda (Orra ‘Lafey’ Phillips, Pauline (Kenneth) Vail, Jessie (Charles) Hooks and Christine Wilcox; special friend, Keith Field.
