Larry Wayne Green, 77, of Herrick, Illinois, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.
Larry was born on February 20, 1948, in Shelbyville, the son of Leland and Mildred (Gaddis) Green. After honorably serving in the United States Army and facing the trials of Vietnam, Larry returned to his roots in Illinois. He dedicated his life to farming in the Herrick area. Alongside his work on the farm, Larry drove truck for Yellow Freight from 1977-2006. Larry’s service extended beyond his professional life as he was an active member of Sarver-Guthrie American Legion Post 839 in Herrick and VFW Post 4829 in Shelbyville. His involvement with these organizations reflected his ongoing commitment to his fellow veterans and his community. In the spring of 1975, Larry united in marriage with his beloved wife, Dorothy Mae Sieber, in Fayette County. Their love blossomed for over 36 years until Dorothy’s passing in 2012. Together, they created a legacy through their children and grandchildren, who brought immense joy into Larry’s life.
Larry’s memory will be carried forward by his daughters, Sherry (Robert) Galvin of Shelbyville and Kristena (Daniel) Cruz of Tucson, Arizona; his sons, Rodney (Kimberly) Green of Revelo, Kentucky, Robert Schwehr of Litchfield, and Larry Green Jr. (Laura Costello) of Lockport. He was the proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who will miss his stories and laughter. Larry is also survived by his brother, Richard (Vicky) Green of Herrick; his aunt, Pauline Craig of Windsor; and many caring nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; his daughter, Karen Sue; and his sister, Patsy Janke.
A man of simple pleasures, Larry found joy in the everyday. He enjoyed farming, fishing, watching old western movies, riding his motorcycle, and playing cards with family and friends, where his sense of humor and love of storytelling shone through.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials in Larry’s honor may be made to the Sarver-Guthrie American Legion Post 839 and may be mailed to 302 W. Main St., Shelbyville, IL 62565.
