Born on November 5, 1936, in Sullivan, Roger was the son of Fred and Edith (Preston) Maxedon. On June 22, 1958, he married Diana Arthur, and together they had their daughter Anita. On July 12, 1986. He married the love of his life, Patricia White, and together they shared 39 wonderful years filled with laughter, love, plenty of dancing, and traveling to wonderful destinations.

Roger lived a full and meaningful life. He served honorably in the National Guard and later worked at Caterpillar for 31 years, retiring in 1999. Long before his factory days, he worked hard on the family farm, where he developed the values of grit, determination, and humility—qualities that that he carried with him for the rest of his life. He drove a gas truck for Atchison then went to work at Caterpillar. He was the owner of Maxedon Camper Sales & Kountry Corner Bait shop for over 20 years. Even after retirement, Roger stayed busy flipping houses and finding joy in the little things.

He was a man of many talents. Roger had a natural gift for music-whether whistling a happy tune or belting out a song when he had an audience, he brought smiles to everyone around him. He loved puzzles, adult coloring books, and his Yorkie puppies. He loved spending time with his family and was always eager for the next adventure.

Roger had a kind and gentle spirit and a sense of humor that could brighten any room. He loved deeply an was deeply loved in return. Known affectionately to some as “Grampy”, he had a special way of making everyone feel important and cherished.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia; daughter, Anita (Tom) Key of Sullivan; step-son, Daryl (Jennifer) White of Gun Barrel City, TX; step-daughters, Lori (Brett) Poorman of Sullivan and Amy (Randy) Kohnert of Watson. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Bob (Phyllis) Maxedon; sister, Phyllis Loy.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his Savior, Jesus Christ, along with his parents, Fred and Edith Maxedon and his brother, Jerry Maxedon.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Willowbrook Memory Care and Hank Habing for not only caring for Roger, but truly loving him. Your kindness and compassion meant the world.

Roger will be missed more than words can say. His legacy of love, laughter, and song lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. While we mourn his loss, we rejoice knowing he is pain-free and reunited with his loved ones in Heaven.
