Brenda D. (Scritchlow) Hurt, 69, of Greenup, IL passed away on July 18, 2025, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL
Memorial Services will be at 11:00 am on Thursday July 24, 2025, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be from 9:00 to service time at the funeral chapel on Thursday. The burial will be in the Harmony Cemetery rural Greenup at a later date.
She was born June 10, 1956, in Mattoon, IL to Harry and Lois (Bartlet) Scritchlow. The fourth child, and only daughter, was the beloved little sister of three big brothers:
Terry, K. Wayne, and Glenn. Brenda graduated from Cumberland High School in 1974. She received a degree from Lake Land Community College in 1976. She was an active 4-H member showing polled Hereford cattle for many years alongside her brothers. Brenda’s work history included Columbian Savings and Loan, Cumberland County Health Department and Cumberland County Clerk’s office. Brenda married the love of her life, Randy Hurt, on September 17, 1977, at Cottonwood Church. She loved horseback riding, camping, spending time with friends and Diet Coke! She enjoyed crafting, quilting, crocheting, and making numerous items for her nieces and nephews. Brenda could always be counted on to lend a hand or help a neighbor. She fought a heroic battle with hereditary pulmonary fibrosis which limited her activities in recent years. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor and kind heart.
Brenda is survived by her husband Randy, and daughter Kathy both of Greenup, IL; sister in law Joni Scritchlow of Bloomington, IL; nephews Ryan (Carrie) Scritchlow and Miles (Monica) Scritchlow; niece Aly Scritchlow McGee (Derek) along with 9 great-nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, and her beloved pets.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Terry and wife Joan, K. Wayne, and Glenn.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cumberland County Animal Control or Effingham County Animal Shelter and control.
