Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on January 10, 1968, Ann Marie was the cherished daughter of David and Mary Gurule of Bernalillo. The eldest of four siblings, she grew into a woman of remarkable strength, deep faith, and endless compassion—virtues that defined every chapter of her life.
Ann Marie was the heart of her family and a steadfast pillar of love and light to all who knew her. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her love was boundless and unconditional, her presence a source of comfort and peace. To be loved by Ann Marie was to know true grace.
For many years, Ann Marie left her role in the medical field and dedicated herself wholeheartedly to raising her children as a stay-at-home mother—a role she embraced with love, patience, and purpose. Later in life, she brought that same devotion and warmth into her professional life, working at a local medical clinic where she served her community with compassion and integrity. Whether helping patients, supporting coworkers, or simply offering a kind word and a smile, Ann Marie made a difference in the lives of so many—just as she always had.
A woman of profound spiritual conviction, Ann Marie lived each day with courage, compassion, and quiet dignity. Her faith in God was her guiding light—through joyful times and through hardship. Even amid her own suffering, she remained a source of hope and strength for others, never without her gentle smile or words of encouragement.
Ann Marie’s legacy is one of selfless love and unwavering devotion. She gave generously from her heart—always praying for others, always placing their needs above her own. Her warmth enveloped those around her, and her nurturing spirit left a lasting imprint on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Duane Koester; her daughters, Aubriana Koester (Jacob) and Mandi Koester (Alonzo); her son, Braiden Koester; and her treasured grandchildren, Jordan and Aliana, who lovingly called her “Mammy”—a name she held closest to her heart. She is also survived by her parents, David and Mary Gurule; her siblings, David Gurule (Lucinda) and Michelle Gurule Cook; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her unborn grandchild; her beloved brother, Edward Gurule; and grandparents, Joe and Nina Garcia, and Bernie and Mandy Chavez.
On the morning of her passing, Heaven gained one of its fiercest and most faithful warriors. While our hearts ache with loss, we take comfort in the immeasurable love she gave and the enduring light she leaves behind. Her spirit lives on—in every memory, every prayer, and every life she so beautifully touched.
