Daniel William Slifer, 47, of Taylorville, IL, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2025, in his residence at John Street CILA in Taylorville, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Rev. Brennan Hurley officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Hubbartt Cemetery, Beecher City, IL. Memorials may be given to Christian County Mental Health Association (Memo: John Street CILA) or Camp New Hope.
Dan was born on August 18, 1977, in Effingham, IL, the son of Ralph William and Bessie Celia (Kelly) Slifer. Dan graduated from the Armstrong Center in Mattoon, IL. He worked for Shelby County Community Services for many years and then the Christian County Mental Health Workshop until his retirement. Dan was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville and Mode United Methodist Church. Dan will be fondly remembered for his love of dancing and his signature dance moves. He also enjoyed karaoke and serving as “head usher” for all the family weddings. Dan’s greatest joy was being an uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
Dan is survived by his mother, Bessie Slifer of Taylorville, IL; sisters, Brenda Patrick and husband Greg of Taylorville, IL, and Melody Bodine and husband Russ of Forsyth, IL; nieces and nephews, Nick Patrick (Alyssa) of Decatur, IL, Kristi Cummins (Michael) of Melissa, TX, Elizabeth Randel (Christian) of Taylorville, IL, Will Bodine (Hadley) of Champaign, IL, and Connor Patrick (Paige) of Taylorville, IL; great nieces and nephews, J.D. Patrick, Penelope Patrick, Theodore Patrick, Lane Randel, Madison Cummins, Cade Cummins and Bennett Cummins; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father. Ralph Slifer.
