James “Jim” Coffin, 51, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Sarah Bush Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Dieterich Cemetery in Dieterich, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2025 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to the family, c/o Darlene Coffin. James was born on August 20, 1973 in South Bend, Indiana, to Jim and Marcia Coffin. He is the brother of John Coffin, Tracy Hall, Sandra Coffin, and Ed Coffin. Jim married Darlene Cowger on November 11, 2000. They had four children, Mitchell, Jonathan, Sarah, and Rachel. Jim loved his family and friends deeply. He was known for his sense of humor. He was a very good storyteller and always had a comment about everything. He enjoyed sports of any kind but golf and football were his favorite. He was an avid Notre Dame and Vikings fan. Jim’s most favorite title was dad. Although he loved sports, he embraced whatever his kids wanted to do including the theatre. He was so proud of all of their accomplishments.

Jim is survived by his wife of almost 25 years, Darlene Coffin; son, Jonathan Coffin; daughters, Sarah and Rachel Coffin; parents, James and Marcia Coffin of Effingham; siblings, John Coffin of Olive Branch, MS, Tracy Hall of Beecher City, Ed Coffin (Shelly) of Effingham, and Sandra Coffin of Effingham; in-laws, Gordon and Vickey Cowger of Teutopolis; sister-in-law, Jacque Cowger of Newton; brother-in-law, Jacob Cowger of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mitchell; and sister-in-law, Lisa Coffin.
