Martha Faye Bailey Martin, age 83, of Altamont, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at Evergreen Nursing Home in Effingham, Illinois.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Pagel Funeral Home in Edgewood, Illinois, with visitation from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Interment will follow at Watson Cemetery. Pastor Nate Mason will be presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may go to First Baptist Church in Effingham, Illinois, or the donor’s choice. Martha was born on May 3, 1942, the daughter of Howard Bailey and Mary Elizabeth Patton in Effingham, Illinois. She married Richard Martin on July 18, 1965 at Salt Creek Methodist Church in Watson, Illinois. For their honeymoon, they ventured up to the Wisconsin Dells, and they took a quick trip across the bridge to Canada and right back so they could say they had been there. Martha and Rich loved traveling, and some of their favorite times were spent taking cruises around Alaska or the Caribbean. She loved spending time reading and loved reading religious books while Rich read railroad books beside her. Martha was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed spending time making meals for church gatherings, and was a better baker than anyone else around when it came to cakes.
Martha is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Rich Martin, as well as her brother, Roy Bailey (Betty), and a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Mary Elizabeth Bailey, as well as her son, Albert Martin, and daughter, Ruth Martin.
