Karen J. “Judy” Ludwig, 86, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Monday, March 24th at 12:00 Noon in Scottsdale, AZ.

Judy was born in Southern Illinois on November 19, 1938 to Joe and Mildred Medlin. Siblings included Joann Mann and Don Peterson. She was a 1956 graduate of Effingham High School where she also served as the senior homecoming queen. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1994. Judy married Bob Ludwig in 1958 and they have three children: Michael (Naples, FL), Lynda (Scottsdale, AZ), and Nancy (Jeff) Bloemker (Williston, ND). Judy has five grandchildren: Katie Bloemker, Sarah (Ty) Bracey, Jack Bloemker, Alexandra Ludwig, and Jack Ludwig.

Judy taught at St. Anthony Grade School in the 1970’s and helped start the Co-Op Preschool at the Presbyterian Church in Effingham. She was a board member at the Helen Matthes Library in Effingham and was a long-time member of the Effingham Country Club and Friends of Lake Sara. She loved attending Ludwig Family reunions anywhere and hosting Medlin Family reunions at her home on Lake Sara.

Besides her immediate family, Judy is survived by her brothers-in-law Phil Mann, Jerry Ludwig, and Leo Ludwig; sisters-in-law Norma Grunloh, Diane Ludwig, and Jennifer Ludwig.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, sister, nephew Greg Mann, nephew Jeff Grunloh, sisters-in-law Jeannie Ludwig, Ruth Ann Roach, and Mary Ludwig; brothers-in-law Ken Ludwig, Lloyd Ludwig, Ron Roach, and Ed Grunloh.

Funeral services for Judy Ludwig will be held in Effingham on Saturday, May 31 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church at 10:00AM. A celebration of life will be held immediately after at the Holiday Inn/Keller Convention Center.

Donations directed to the Effingham Public Library, St. Anthony Grade School, or the Effingham Unit 40 Educational Foundation will be appreciated.
