Sandra Dale (Boxley) Lyons age 81, of Woodson, Illinois, formerly of Newton, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital, Springfield, Illinois.
Funeral services celebrating Sandra’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial gifts in honor of Sandra may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association or to the American Heart Association.

Sandra was born on March 5, 1944, in Effingham, Illinois the daughter of Dale and Thelma (Shamhart) Boxley. On August 13, 1994, Sandra married Larry C. Lyons. Sandra was a retired teacher, having taught at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired in Jacksonville, Illinois. In her free time, Sandra had many creative hobbies. She enjoyed crochet, knitting, sewing, oil painting, and photography. She also enjoyed making jewelry and collecting jewelry when she was out antiquing. She liked cooking and sitting down with a good book. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren, especially taking trips. Her most recent passion was cross stitching samplers for her grandchildren’s 39 births.
Sandra will be loved and remembered by her husband of thirty years, Larry Lyons of Woodson, IL; children, Lisa Anne Guyer of Port Orange, FL, Tracy Lee Marie Carlen, husband Bill of Newton, Michael Shannon Kessler, wife Ellen of Bloomington and Michelle Lynn Kessler of Newton; step-children, Christina Borcky, husband Joe ofWaverly and Tamzia Pierson, husband Steve of Auburn; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother Mark Boxley, wife Sherry of Peoria, AZ and sister Linda Zumbahlen of Newton.
Her parents, daughter Aimee Suzanne Kessler and son-in-law Jim Guyer preceded her in death.
