Vernon Ray Hildebrand, age 86, of Newton, Illinois passed away Friday, May 23, 2025, at Deaconess Hospital, Evansville, Indiana.
Funeral services celebrating Vernon’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 30, 2025, at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 29th, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton, Illinois.
Vernon was born on July 27, 1938, in Shamrock, Illinois at the family home. He was the son of Clarence and Hazel (Meek) Hildebrand. On November 11, 1962, Vernon married Martha Schuetter.
For many years, Vernon served as president of the Peoples State Bank in Newton. In addition to his time in banking, Vernon began his real estate career at Weber Insurance and Realty. He owned and was the broker for Jasper County Realty in Newton. Vernon also owned and was the appraiser for Vernon R. Hildebrand Appraisals.
Vernon was a member of the Willow Hill United Methodist Church, as well as the Newton Masonic Lodge No. 216 A.F. & A.M., the Jasper County Shrine Club, past president, and the Ainad Shrine of East St. Louis.
In his free time, Vernon enjoyed visiting casinos and loved playing solitaire games on his phone. He dearly loved his family and especially loved spending time with his children and many nieces and nephews.
Vernon will be loved and remembered by his wife of sixty-two years Martha Hildebrand of Newton; son Chris Hildebrand of Newton; daughter Julie Hildebrand of Newton and siblings, Glendeth Meese of Robinson, Norman (Pat) Hildebrand of Newton and Sandra Farley of Newton.
His parents, in-laws Leo and Leona Schuetter, brothers-in-law Jim Meese, Kent Farley and Bob Schuetter and nephew Phil Schuetter preceded him in death.
Memorial gifts in honor of Vernon may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
