Kathryn Rose Proffitt 68 of rural Mattoon, Illinois passed away at 6:05 PM Wednesday May 14, 2025 in the HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
Kathryn was born February 13, 1957 in Kirkwood, Missouri the daughter of James and Rose (Miller) Kelly. She married John Proffitt April 21, 1990 in Kirkwood, Missouri. Mrs. Proffitt worked as City Editor for the Effingham Daily News in Effingham, Illinois and also as Church Secretary for the St. Mary Of The Assumption Church in Neoga, Illinois.
She is survived by her husband John Proffitt of rural Mattoon, Illinois; children, John Patrick Proffitt of rural Mattoon, Illinois and Morgan Jasper Proffitt of Charleston, Illinois; brothers, Jim Kelly (Maudie) of Farmington, Missouri and Tom Kelly (Linda) of Centennial, Colorado; sister, Margaret Sohn (David) of Overland, Missouri; Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents.

As per her wishes cremation rites will be accorded and a Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday May 22, 2025 in the Swengel – O’Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, Illinois. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until service time also at the funeral home. Burial will be in the St. Patrick Cemetery in Trowbridge, Illinois.
