Inis Faye Kistner Probst, age 91, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 7:56 AM – Friday, May 16, 2025, peacefully at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM – Monday, May 19, 2025, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois with Fr. Pawel Luczak celebrating mass. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Sunday May 18, 2025, at the church. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Inis Faye was born on May 1, 1934, in Jasper County, Illinois, the daughter of Frank and Florica (Foster) Meyer. She was a 1952 graduate of Newton Community High School. She married Melvin William Kistner on June 23,1956, and he preceded her in death on January 4, 1995. She married Joseph Frank Probst on June 26, 1999, and he passed on June 11, 2021. Inis’ 91 years of life were packed with family and service. A devout Catholic, she was a longtime member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois. Her commitment to her community was evident through decades of service. She was a proud Home Extension member, a devoted 4-H leader, a passionate Master Gardener, volunteer at the St. Thomas Catholic School and in later years the Silk Purse in Newton, Illinois. She loved sharing her knowledge, especially with younger generations, and found great joy in nurturing both plants and people. She shared her love of sewing with others through hundreds of handmade quilts she pieced and made for her family and others in need.
Inis is survived by-Her 6 children- Tom (Denise) Kistner of Witt, Illinois; Jeanne Fritschle of Olney, Illinois; Kathy (Don) Bierman of Effingham, Illinois; John (Tammy) Kistner of Newton, Illinois; Darlene (Tim) Garrett of Olney, Illinois and Janet (Mark) Vahling of Newton, Illinois; Brother- John Paul Meyer of Wheeler, Illinois; 19 Grandchildren; 22 Great-Grandchildren with 4 on the way. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Faithful companion, her dog Charlie; Inis will be lovingly remembered by Joe’s children and grandchildren as well.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Melvin Kistner and Joe Probst, grandson Devin Hundley, brothers Eldon “Max” Meyer, Francis “Donnie” Meyer, Sisters Phyllis Russell and twin sister Iris Johnson.
