Six people have submitted their names to succeed Merv Gillenwater on the Effingham City Council.

Today was the last official day for Gillenwater after 22 years on the Council, four years as Mayor and the other 18 years as a Commissioner.

Those who are seeking to fill the final two years of Gillenwater’s term are Jacob Niebrugge, Jim Niemann, Kevin Palmer, Ryan Gebben, Tiffany Toney and Trent Hartke.

The City Council’s next meeting is Tuesday, May 6, but nothing has been announced as to when a decision on a new commissioner will be made.
