Washington Savings Bank has announced the retirement of Board Member Paul McKillip, following more than 27 years of dedicated service to the bank, its customers, and the communities it serves.
McKillip joined the Board of Directors of First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Mattoon in April 1999 and continued his service after the organization merged into Washington Savings Bank in October 2015.
Over the years, he helped guide the bank through multiple mergers and acquisitions, significant growth, and ongoing industry changes, all while preserving the values that remain central to Washington Savings Bank today.
During his tenure, McKillip served on several committees and played a key role in establishing and growing the bank’s Trust and Wealth Management department. His leadership and insight were instrumental in guiding the bank’s growth and reinforcing its strong commitment to the community.
McKillip said he has always taken pride in the bank’s reputation and the stories he has heard from customers over the years. “When I mention the bank, many people tell me, ‘They loaned me the money for my first home,’ or ‘They gave me a chance when no one else would,’ or ‘The people there truly care about their customers,’” said McKillip. “That’s something I’m incredibly proud of.”
Chairman of the Board Paul Koerner praised McKillip’s lasting influence on the organization. “I’ve always believed a person’s impact can be measured by the strength of the relationships they build, and Paul is unmatched in that regard,” said Koerner. “His ability to connect with others and serve as a trusted voice for the Coles County community has been invaluable.”
As he reflects on the bank’s future, McKillip expressed confidence in its leadership and continued community focus. “We have a Board and bank leadership team that is engaged and committed to the needs and future of the community,” he said.
Washington Savings Bank extended its sincere appreciation to McKillip for his decades of service, leadership, and commitment to the bank’s mission.
