Insurance was a chief topic at Monday’s meeting of the Effingham County Board Administrative Committee.

Committee members discussed the benefits of municipalities and townships in the county working with the County on insurance coverage.

There will be research on whether there are enough employees of the various entities to make such partnerships beneficial. The County agreed to contact the other governmental bodies as to their interest.

There was also discussion on whether to pursue bids on liability insurance coverage.

Committee members also discussed funding for 4th of July fireworks displays. The committee recommended $1,000 for Noon Rotary for the City display and $3,000 for the Lake Sara display. There will also be a $2,000 request for Dieterich’s display, up from $1,500 last year.

The committee discussed revisions to the proposed nuisance ordinance and decided to send it to the full County Board. Also recommended was naming the board room at Effingham County Regional Airport in memory of Tony Siemer, who served on the County Airport Authority for 51 years before his death earlier this year.

There was discussion on whether Effingham County should be the grantee for rural transportation funds for the counties administered by CEFS Economic Opportunity Corporation.

The committee recommended salary increases for the county clerk, circuit clerk, county treasurer and supervisor of assessments for the coming four years. The pay rates need to be set before those elected in November take office. The committee is recommending pay increases of 4% the first year of the term, and then 3.5% increases in each of the following three years.

Committee members also voted to recommend appointment of John Taylor and Jim Ping to the County Board of Review, and Sasha Althoff to the Economic Development Advisory Board.
