The Illinois unemployment rate for January was 4.9%, up from 4.7% in December and up from 4.7% in January 2025.
Total nonfarm payrolls increased by 18,000, the largest monthly increase since June 2023.
The industry sectors reporting the largest increases included Construction; Manufacturing; and Trade, Transportation and Utilities.
The number of unemployed persons in Illinois in January was 318,700, up 3.5% from December, and up 1.3% over the same month one year ago.
